Mr. Cutters | Story

MR. CUTTERS IS AN OLD STORY that I wrote years ago. I had this idea for a book of short stories, like Dr.Seuss or Shel Silverstein’s “Where the Sidewalk Ends”. It was supposed to be quirky and weird, and I had a lot of fun with the idea. This is one of the stories. And while I never finished the book of odd short stories, I decided to use them for a story segment in Muse Realm Radio!

Mr. Cutters

SNIP! SNIP! Hear him, hear him, here he COMES!
Mr. CUTTERS, the boy with the scissors, made of cookie crumbs.
He loves to make friends; he’ll make friends with you,
If you give him a chance, he’ll show what he’ll do.

Mr. Cutters cuts, of course, and takes with a friendly smile,
Then disappears and reappears after a little while.
Like a bandit, he cries, “FRIENDSHIP!” and cuts,
People wonder if Mr. Cutters is nuts.

He cuts in the name of FRIENDSHIP, and he loves one and all,
In the name of friendship is the reason he’ll call.
He cut Mrs. Tinglies ‘ dress, and stole one of her shoes,
And cut the blue buttons off the jacket of Mr. Eddy Bloose.

He cut the pillowcase off Timmy’s little bed,
Then snipped away the last hairs on Mr. Minglie’s head.
Mr. Cutters cut the ears off baby Gini’s mask,
And ran off with toy bat wings, and of course, he didn’t ask.

SNIP! SNIP! He gathers, and he takes,
Mr. Cutters needs all this for what he makes.
Why the need for junk, and what does he make you ask?
Ask him, and he’ll surely reveal the task.

Mr. Cutters likes to MAKE friends, you see,
And that’s the reason he steals from you and me.
Now, with a pillow at his feet, he’s ready to begin!
And with his supplies, he’ll begin in a min.

He cut a hole in the front of the pillow and shoved in Mrs. Tinglie’s dress,
And the pillow gained a flowing, moving tress.
He put in Mr. Eddy Bloose’s blue buttons, with happy cries,
And the blue button became the pillow’s eyes.

Timmy’s pillow case became the mouth, and Gini’s mask became two-eared,
He fed the pillow toy wings, and bat wings soon appeared.
Finally, the pillow bat was fed Mrs. Tinglie’s shoe,
And it became a foot, and there were only a few things left to do.

“Puff- Ruff, my FRIEND,” Mr. Cutters said to the Pillow Bat, “You’re almost complete!”
“All I need is something to make you finished and neat!”
Now all Puff-Ruff needs is a kiss and a mind…
